One question I always get asked is, should women lift weights? “I don’t want to get big and bulky” this is most women’s first reaction to lifting weights. Can you get big muscles from lifting weights? Of course you can IF you train for it. If you are just wanting a fit toned body like Margot Robbie then lifting weights is going to get you there a lot quicker than running on the treadmill for hours at a time. Lifting weights increase Lean muscle, the more lean muscle you have the faster your metabolic rate is therefore burning more fat faster, it is that simple! Focus on the Reps and Sets when lifting weights to ensure you are working out to get the best results possible!
Here are the Reps guidelines:
5-8 Reps= Strength and Building Muscle Mass
8-10 Reps= Strength and Muscle Mass
10-12 Reps= Muscle Mass and Slight Endurance
12-15 Reps= Endurance with some Strength
15-20 Reps= Predominately Endurance
I personally vary from 12-20 reps and 3-5 sets on exercises to keep strength. For best results do a HIIT circuit of 6-10 exercises including all major muscle groups to work your body harder and burn more energy. At Bodyright Bootcamp we run HIIT sessions, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
