Most people don’t actually realise that they are not exercising efficiently; in fact they could actually be wasting their time at the gym or during their training sessions.
Here are some pointers to think about to make sure you are getting the most out of your daily workout.
1. There is a reason for most exercise classes being set at a duration of 45 minutes. It is said that after an hour of exercise the ratio between growth-promoting, fat-loss inducing) and catabolic (fat gain-promoting, muscle-wasting) hormones starts to become more catabolic. You can potentially become prone to puttinh on weight and losing muscle if you train too much so stick to 45 minute sessions a day.
2. You need to maintain focus during the entirety of the session or you can lack progress. You are better to train harder at high intensity for a short period the moderately for a longer period of time, this helps to maintain a strong focus on each individual exercise.
3. You need to make sure you are training hard enough, just because you are going through the motions of each step doesn’t mean you are working out. To test your level of intensity try taking the ‘Rate of Perceived Exertion’ test (RPE test). It is simple, scoring yourself a ‘1’ means no effort at all, and scoring yourself a ’10’ means you can only last 5 to 10 seconds at this level of intensity before crashing. It’s all about self realisation and taking your training outside your comfort zone.
4. Finally you need to have a plan. This is where a personal trainer comes in, someone that is qualified to ensure you are doing the optimum combination of exercises to work out your body every session. Without a plan you may not be exercising efficiently for your body.
